This textile collection, sampaguita, is a reflection of my culture and an exploration of dye techniques. These swatches utilize a floral motif inspired by the national flower of the Philippines and direct dye techniques derived from Japanese shibori art.
Mood board that provided inspiration for the collection. Collaged in Adobe Photoshop.
I made 10" x 10" swatches to experiment and play with different colors and techniques. Techniques used include shibori, direct dye, jacquard resists, stamping, and indigo dye baths. Swatches were done on 100% cotton twill or 100% cotton duck canvas.

Dye formulas I created for consistency in color within the collection. I multiplied the amounts of different dyes to adjust the intensity of each color.
The final collection
I named the swatches adjectives in Tagalog that I felt best describe each design. All final swatches were done on 100% cotton duck canvas.
